Genesee, Here I Come

Well, I am about to embark (tomorrow morning, that is) on the highlight of my summer, my week-long retreat at the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard, NY. I am very excited to be taking in some silence, solitude, and even some scenery at a nice contemplative monastery. So, just a note to all of you that while I am out seeking some spiritual regeneration, please pray for my success. Please pray for me during this retreat, that I may come out of it more committed to the authentic Christian life and more able to serve the Lord. I'll be praying for you, rest assured.

Brother Patrick,

Hope you have a good retreat. I do have a question. Did St. Joseph Marello or any other Oblate of St. Joseph have any writings or thoughts on making a good retreat?

Being from Philadelphia many around here go to Malvern Retreat House. The standard greeting for those who go to Malvern is is "Prosit - may it go well with you".

Prosit!
Pete

Pete,

I had a very nice retreat. I'm captivated by the vastness of the Trappists' farm. I have no idea how they manage it all. I am not aware of any writings or thoughts of Marello (or other Oblates) on making retreats, but I imagine there must be some, somewhere. I'll have to do a little digging for that one.

I have heard great things about Malvern, but have never been there. I'll have to give it a try. With the Trappists, the only standard greeting was a smile and a nod, as their retreats are all silent. However, we at the seminary use "Prosit" after Mass, to which the celebrant responds "Vobis (or tibi, for one person) quoque," which I suppose is a much cooler way of saying, "Same to you."
